How to watch the Primeira Liga:

The top teams in the Primeira Liga:
S.L. Benfica:
S.L Benfica which are based in Lisbon, have won the most Primeira Liga titles and are by far the most successful team in the league. As of 2020 Benfica have won 37 Primeira Liga titles. The latest of which was the 2019 cup. One of Benfica’s highlights is winning not one but two back to back European Cups. A feat which no other European club has achieved. While S.L. Benfica have signed numerous well known players over the course of their history, one of the most notable players in the 2020 squad is their star player, forward Carlos Vinicius.
FC Porto:
As you may have guessed FC Porto are based in the city of Porto. Porto started to achieve a high level of success after the club hired Jose Mourinho as their coach in 2001. A position which Mourinho maintained until 2004. Under Mourinho’s leadership Porto managed to turn their luck around and the club took home the 2002-2003 Primeira Liga title.
Better yet, the club finished their stellar season, 11 full points ahead of their nearest rival, Benfica. During the same year FC Porto also won the UEFA Cup. A feat which FC Porto repeated during the 2003-2004 season.
While FC Porto have been through a few rocky periods, they recently won the Primeira Liga in 2018. During the 2019 season, FC Porto reached the quarter finals of the UEFA Cup.
Sporting CP:
Sporting CP is based out of Lisbon as is better known as Sporting Lisbon. One of Sporting CP’s greatest rivals are S.L Benfica who are also based in Lisbon. One of Sporting CP’s most recent Primeira Liga victories took place during the 2014-2015 season. At the time Sporting CP’s win was their 16th Primeira Liga championship win.
Sporting CP also is partially responsible for the successful international football career of one of Portugal’s most famous soccer players, Cristiano Ronaldo. As Ronaldo took part in Sporting CP’s youth academy system. Another Portuguese national player who passed through the same youth academy system is Luis Figo. Who is Ronaldo’s team mate in the Portuguese national side. Both men have competed in numbers FIFA World Cups together.
In 2018, Sporting CP had 14 graduates compete in the FIFA World Cup. In comparison Barcelona FC only had 11 graduates from their youth academy system in the World Cup.
